Emerging Markets Payments (EMP), the leading electronic payments processing company in Africa and the Middle East, and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) today announced a processing partnership for debit and credit cards that has enabled GTBank to launch the first platinum MasterCard Credit Card in Kenya.
The launch of GTBank’s Platinum card reflects demand from a growing Kenyan middle class and their resultant appetite for enhanced card products. EMP’s and GTBank’s position at the premier end of the market means that together we will work to deliver debit and credit issuing services throughout the GTBank network. With their MasterCard branded cards, GTBank customers will now be able to access their bank accounts 24 hours a day via the bank’s ATM network and at any other MasterCard branded ATMs and at Points of Sale (POS) across the country and all around the world.
EMP is committed to delivering services across Africa to GTBank, including Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Rwanda, Uganda and Gambia in addition to Kenya.
Commenting on the announcement, Murat Ozulku, CEO of EMP Africa, said: “We are extremely pleased with our growing relationship with GTBank across Africa and to be working with GTBank Kenya. We look forward to working closely together over the coming years and we are confident that its customers will benefit from our combined efforts.”
Adding to this announcement, Wayne Harris, Managing Director of EMP East & Southern Africa, said “Our collaboration with GTBank is based on a shared ambition for the people using East Africa’s financial infrastructure. GTBank’s focus on this area and their plans to deploy new payment services in a range of countries makes them an ideal partner.”
Ms. Ibukun Odegbaike, Managing Director, GTBank, East Africa added: “The GTBank Platinum MasterCard enables us to provide our affluent customers with a financial product that meets their constantly changing banking needs. We are passionate about innovation and pleased to work with MasterCard and EMP to develop market relevant payment products and solutions.”
