HPS, a leading payment software company providing electronic payments solutions, announced today that Banque Populaire will now be using the PowerCARD solution to process electronic payment transactions of all of its subsidiaries in Africa.

The partnership between Banque Populaire and HPS dates back to 2001 when the PowerCARD solution was implemented to manage all Moroccan electronic payment activities of the Group that offers today a comprehensive card payment service with almost 4 million cards issued and a network of more than 1,500 ATMs.

This strategic partnership was strengthened when Banque Populaire Group choses the PowerCARD solution in November 2014 to manage all the electronic payment activities for all the banks in its subsidiary, namely, Banque Atlantique present in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo.

"We have a longstanding partnership with HPS and are delighted to extend this to include Banque Atlantique through the emergence of the first pan-African payment platform in Morocco," commented Hassan Debbagh, Deputy Managing Director, Banque Populaire, "PowerCARD is the perfect solution for our Group, because its flexibility enables our subsidiaries to serve the specific needs of their local customers while still consolidating our pan-African payments platform; which was first designed to serve our Sub-Saharan African subsidiaries before processing other banks’ payment activities”.

The consolidation of all electronic payment activities onto a single PowerCARD platform at the cutting edge of technology now enables Banque Populaire to reduce its costs and improve not only its efficiency, but also the competitiveness of its electronic payment service in Morocco and its subsidiaries in Sub Saharan African countries.

"Africa has an important place in our international expansion strategy. We are delighted to see Banque Populaire Group development in Africa and are honoured to support the Group with our international experience spanning over 70 countries on 4 continents", said Mohamed Horani, President and CEO of HPS.
