payworks, provider of a mobile payment platform, and indoo.rs, a location-based services company, will host the first mPOSHackathon. The contest will give both developers and designers the opportunity to build innovative mobile Point of Sale solutions on top of the two companies' SDKs.

The event takes place on 19th and 20th February 2014 in Berlin at Europe's leading payment conference, Merchant Payments Ecosystem. During the mPOS Hackathon, several teams of app developers and designers will compete in building innovative mobile payment prototypes.

The 24-hour Hackathon takes place as a part of Merchant Payments Ecosystem 2014, Europe's leading conference for merchant payments at the Point of Sale. During the hackathon several teams of 4-5 programmers and designers will be building innovative mobile POS prototypes, using payworks' and indoo.rs' SDKs as a basis. The results will be presented in front of conference attendees and a jury, which will select the best product. The winning teams will receive attractive hardware sponsored by the official partners of the hackathon PAY.ON, life.SREDA and the Anthemis Group.

During last year's Merchant Payments Ecosystem conference, payworks was awarded most innovative payments startup. This time, it is payworks itself helping young and ambitious teams to make their ideas happen. "We are proud to have such a creative event at our conference and I'm sure that we will see some exciting outcomes of the hackathon" says Andy Ivanis of Empiria Group, the organizer of the three day conference.

While the payworks SDKs help developers to quickly integrate payment functionality into shopper and merchant apps with Chip & PIN, the involvement of indoo.rs as an additional API sponsor takes the possibilities even further. Participants can combine mobile payments and location-based services in their products - two technologies that are set to revolutionize the Point of Sale as we know it today. Based on the provided APIs, the teams will be able to build a disruptive location-based payment prototype for Point of Sale applications within just 24 hours.

"For payworks hackathons have proven to be a successful and fun way of driving innovation" says Johannes Lechner, Head of Product at payworks. "We are convinced that quickly built prototypes can be the starting point of real ground-breaking products and we are really looking forward to see the outcomes of the event."
