Azul Systems, the award-winning leader in Java runtime scalability, today entered into a technical partnership with Solarflare, a leader in application-intelligent 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networking software and hardware.
The partnership will provide an integrated runtime platform for financial services companies that will improve throughput, lower latency and eliminate jitter for Java applications.
The Azul-Solarflare solution delivers the key components for application execution consistency, while lowering average latency. Designed for ultra-low latency use cases such as DMA, algo-trading, order matching and real-time risk management, the award-winning Azul Zing™ Java Virtual Machine (JVM) features an advanced garbage collector architecture and memory manager that eliminate response-time outliers, resulting in more predictable response times with improved latency. Solarflare's OpenOnload high-performance network stack reduces TCP/UDP/IP network latency and processor utilization, while increasing message rate and bandwidth. Based on recent company benchmarks, OpenOnload increases throughput by two to three times, and decreases latency by 50 percent. When coupled with the Azul Zing JVM, average latencies dropped an additional 18 percent, while eliminating max outliers by seven times.
In capital markets, where fractions of a second can mean the gain or loss of millions of dollars, consistency and predictability of Java applications are critical to conducting business. However, not all JVMs can keep up with object allocation rates under higher transaction volumes. As a result, trade processing is delayed, transactions are held up and profits are lost. By leveraging Azul's and Solarflare's complementary products, financial services companies can ensure that these profit-stealing pauses and latency spikes are eliminated, and banks, hedge funds and proprietary traders maintain their competitive edge.
"Azul's and Solarflare's best-of-breed products have been tested to ensure they work together seamlessly," said Bruce Tolley, vice president, solutions marketing at Solarflare. "We've taken all the necessary steps to deliver exactly what our customers require to do business in today's fast-paced business environment. And although our focus at this time is on capital markets, customers from a wide variety of industries can profit from our collaboration with Azul."
"Our valued customers in the capital markets see incredible advantages in a collaboration between Azul and Solarflare," said Scott Sellers, CEO and founder of Azul Systems. "This partnership was formed in direct response to that vision, and is a strong example of the value technology vendors can create by working together for the benefit of our common customers."
