Police cybercrime unit make arrest in Tilon banking malware case
In the early hours of 19 March, officers from the Police Central eCrime Unit (PCeU) and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) attended an address in Benhurst Gardens, South Croydon and arrested a man, aged 36, for conspiracy to defraud and drug offences.

The PCeU and SOCA Cyber are conducting joint operations in anticipation of the setting up of a single National Cyber Crime Unit, as part of the new National Crime Agency (NCA). The NCA will go live in October this year, subject to the passage of legislation through Parliament.
This arrest is in connection with an ongoing operation investigating the distribution of the sophisticated banking malicious software (known as "Tilon"). This 'malware' has been used to infect online banking customers' computers and then steal their personal details in order to facilitate fraudulent transactions.
The arrested man has been taken to a south London Police Station where he remains in custody. His computers and digital media have been seized for examination by the team's digital forensic investigators.
To help reduce everybody's vulnerability to criminal malware, it is recommended that members of the public maximise their online security by regularly updating their anti-virus software and routine operating system patches.
