Previously the process was 'two-step', which required customers to send money to TransferWise from their internet bank to make a payment. Now customers can enter their debit card details directly into the website, speeding up the process significantly.

Taavet Hinrikus, the cofounder of TransferWise, said: "This is a really important step in further simplifying the service for our customers."

TransferWise is just two-years-old. Last year, it transferred over £50m worth of customer money and the team grew to 25 people. It introduced the US Dollar, the Swiss Franc, Polish Zloty, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone and the Norwegian Krone and won the coveted Europas award for best startup.

This year it will continue expanding, introducing many more currencies and localising its services in key markets such as Spain.
