The announcement also coincides with news that miiCard is extending its service to support internet users in Ireland and France with plans to enter further European territories throughout this year. miiCard is already active in the UK, USA, Canada, India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

miiCard (My Internet Identity) creates trust on the web by verifying identity purely online and in real-time to the same level as a driver's licence, passport or photo ID works offline. Today's news clearly signals TDL's recognition of the value and opportunity miiCard brings to the internet by enabling this high level of trust on a global scale and for the first time.

By putting the individual in control of their digital identity, miiCard gives its members a safe and secure way to establish a high level of trust upfront and completely online. This enables them to do more across a range of sites and services from finance and ecommerce to dating and social networking. Working with TDL enables miiCard to contribute and collaborate on new trustworthy ICT products and services that benefit individuals and businesses.

TDL, founded by Nokia, Gemalto, Philips, Microsoft is formed by leading digital industry players and academic institutes, has been established to address the challenges of establishing online trust as a high priority. Trust has consistently been identified by organisations and industry leaders as one of the major enablers of digital life: conversely, the absence of trust can act as a showstopper to productive interaction and business online. TDL currently has 27 invited members from industry and academia, working together for a secure digital future.

James Varga, CEO of miiCard explains: "Through active involvement and engagement with the TDL community, I hope that miiCard can encourage and facilitate the widespread adoption of trusted ICT solutions and work towards a trustworthy framework for internet.
