Panopticon Software the leading provider of visual data analysis software for real-time, CEP and historical time series data, today announced that BlackRock has purchased an enterprise license for the Panopticon suite of information visualization software, including its Developer SDK for Java and .NET, the Panopticon EX enterprise application and the Panopticon Rapid Development Kit.

The purchase will allow BlackRock to deploy Panopticon Treemap, Heatmap and other interactive data visualization tools to support its internal operations and in client-facing applications.

BlackRock is a leader in investment management, risk management and advisory services for institutional and retail clients worldwide with over $3.5 trillion in assets under management. The firm offers products that span the risk spectrum, including active, enhanced and index strategies across markets and asset classes. BlackRock also offers risk management, advisory and enterprise investment system services to a broad base of institutional investors through its BlackRock Solutions business.

BlackRock also plans to incorporate Panopticon into its Aladdin Enterprise Investment System, a platform that combines sophisticated risk analytics with portfolio management, trading and operations functions. Aladdin is used internally at BlackRock and provided to over 45 external clients through BlackRock Solutions.

Jeffrey Dean, Director of High Frequency Data & Analytics at BlackRock, stated, "We fully recognize the need for real-time access to trading, risk and market data in all of our operations. Panopticon is the only data visualization vendor in the market capable of supporting our requirements, which include the ability to visualize data from CEP engines, real-time message queues and tick databases as well as traditional relational data repositories. In addition, the Developer SDK and Rapid Development Kit will allow us to embed Panopticon Treemaps and other data visualizations into our own proprietary enterprise applications; this ability to tightly integrate real-time visual data analytics into our systems was critical in selecting Panopticon."

Richard Wilkinson, SVP Americas for Panopticon, said, "BlackRock epitomizes the 'Big Data' challenge in capital markets applications. Panopticon allows users to take massive quantities of tick, time series and trading data to quickly understand the performance of trading operations. Visualizing Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA) and real time performance analytics provides insights where data volume and velocity would previously drown out exposure and opportunity alike. Panopticon's ability to embed within existing applications and our industry leading connectivity makes our software the obvious choice for any financial institution with a combination of in house and 3rd party tools. Financial markets are witnessing a sea change in data visualization. Users simply can't wait for reports to be generated; they need up-to-date data in seconds. We are proud to be selected by BlackRock as they have a reputation for building the very best in financial technology."
