Thomson Reuters has confirmed plans to launch an Elektron co-location service for the Hong Kong Exchange (HKEx) in order to meet the increasingly strong demand from financial institutions for fast and cost-effective access to this important financial market.
Thomson Reuters customers will be able to co-locate their trading applications within the data centre, reducing latency and improving the speed at which they execute trades.
As a founding member of HKEx's new Hosting Services Ecosystem, Thomson Reuters will deploy its full Elektron infrastructure within the HKEx data centre, allowing customers to connect to low latency data from the local market as well as regional and global cross-asset market data to fuel their applications. Customers will also have access to the Elektron managed service offering which provides full support for managed market data infrastructure, performance monitoring, network connectivity and access to other Thomson Reuters products and services.
Thomson Reuters participation in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's new data centre initiative will contribute to the growing success of the Elektron hosting proposition around the region, building on existing sites in Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and Mumbai that all offer low latency data feeds, customer application co-location, managed market data infrastructure and hosted Thomson Reuters applications. With the benefits of improved performance, faster time to market and lower cost of ownership, Thomson Reuters sees increasing demand for managed service solutions across the region.
"Speed continues to be a key focus for the Asian trading community as sell-side firms increasingly look to leverage algorithms to improve the quality of their trade execution. We are therefore delighted to be working with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange from the outset of their new data centre initiative to facilitate improved access for trading participants to the Hong Kong market. This step continues our strategy to set new performance benchmarks for market connectivity and to support our customers' growth strategies across the region," said Mike Powell, Managing Director, Elektron Hosting & Managed Services.
