The app provides the bank's global financial clients with access to fixed income, commodity and currency (FICC) research and strategy information while they are on the move.

The new app is an additional means of giving RBS's institutional clients user-friendly access to the bank's wide range of strategy and analysis, and complements RBSMarketplace (www.rbsm.com), the bank's comprehensive research and trading portal. It includes a built-in algorithm that identifies clients' defined interests and viewing history to provide them with information that is customised to their preferences. Formicary delivered the front-end functionality of the app that enables users to view, sort and comment on RBS market information in a secure and compliant mobile environment.

The app has been developed in response to customer demand, following RBS research into the way its clients prefer to receive research and strategy information. Analysis of the results showed that more than 72 percent of respondents currently use mobile devices to access macro and investment ideas to and from work.

Ron Karpovich, Global Head of FICC Product Management, Electronic Markets at RBS GBM, explains: "We are proactively addressing our clients' needs by providing access to mobile platforms so they can benefit from timely, dynamic analysis from our market-leading strategists when and where they need it".

Blake Walsh, Business Analyst at RBS, says: "Formicary demonstrated high-level technical expertise as well as an in-depth knowledge of our industry, resulting in a fast, smooth development process. The end result is an enhanced communication channel that reflects the needs of our customers".

"The BlackBerry PlayBook app is an extension of RBS's ongoing commitment to provide its clients with up-to-date, detailed and relevant information tailored to their needs and delivered in the format of their choice," comments Howard Travers, COO at Formicary Collaboration Group. oup. "Working in partnership with RBS and RIM ensured that we delivered an innovative concept that combines high-end design with advanced communication technology".

The BlackBerry PlayBook was launched in the US in April 2011 by Research in Motion (RIM) as the first tablet specifically aimed at the corporate market.
