BB&T Corporation (NYSE:BBT) announced today it has launched a free Android application for both smartphone and tablet users.

BB&T is one of only a few U.S. banks to offer a comprehensive mobile banking consumer and small business product suite - mobile Web, text banking, and mobile applications - for a wide range of mobile devices. The app is now available for download on the Android Marketplace. BlackBerry and iPhone apps were released in 2010.

"Today's clients are always connected and require a quick, convenient way to manage their accounts and access our banking services," said Howard Brooks, BB&T Electronic Delivery Channels manager. "BB&T is committed to providing the most up-to-date enhancements in the mobile arena to meet our clients' lifestyle needs and help them make the best financial decisions based on how they wish to bank with us."

The Android app allows clients to complete a full range of mobile banking transactions from the convenience of their Android devices:

  • Check account balances and transactions
  • Transfer funds
  • Pay bills
  • Locate the nearest BB&T financial center or ATM using GPS (Global Positioning System) technology

The BB&T mobile banking suite provides consumer and small business clients the ability to choose the device and products that best fit their needs and the convenience of fast, easy access to their accounts. Clients can access a wide array of BB&T accounts from checking and savings to loans, mortgage, investment and more. The suite includes apps for the top smartphones and tablets, browser access from any phone and banking via text messages. Also available is an app specifically designed for the iPad. Plus, clients can stay in touch with their accounts using BB&T's e-mail and mobile alerts services.

Clients who access their accounts through BB&T Mobile can rest assured that their personal information is secure. BB&T guards clients' accounts with 128-bit encryption technology, multiple firewalls to shield the network and logon security measures with automatic inactivity logoff.

Consumers can find additional information on how to protect their identity and personal information on BB&T's website. Security Central is an education resource with the most current focus on mobile banking security. The site presents user-friendly information through interactive games, informative podcasts, current security alerts and more.
