SunGard has completed an optimization project for its Asset Arena solution suite, as part of a two-year project which improved transaction processing speed by up to 85% for its asset management and asset servicing customers.

SunGard's open systems platforms utilize multiple CPUs to help customers shorten investment accounting cycles and reduce operating costs Asset Arena's open architecture helps deliver improved transaction rates to its investment accounting customers without the need for costly code changes or service disruptions. Transaction rates for fund valuation have been decreased by 85% on average, giving firms the ability to process seven times more business within the same timeframe. SunGard stress-tested these systems at volumes of over two billion transactions, without any decrease in speed of processing, thus validating the scalability of the system architecture for the world's largest asset managers and servicers.

The move to open systems was achieved using UniKix hosting technology from Clerity, a leading provider of mainframe migration, modernization and optimization solutions. Brandon Edenfield, president of Clerity, said, "Clerity is proud to partner with SunGard to help the company optimize its substantial application investments without sacrificing functionality or introducing risk into the migration to open systems. We worked with SunGard to target key areas to speed processing and to capitalize on both the higher performance and lower cost of ownership of open systems."

Martin Boyd, president of SunGard's asset management business, said, "The improved speed and scalability we achieved will help produce greater productivity gains for Asset Arena customers, who are highly dependent on complex and time-sensitive computations such as Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations. With the maturity of open systems, we confidently operate our largest customer installations in an n-tier infrastructure, with a choice of deployment platforms to maximize efficiency and minimize processing time. When processing transactions, our customers demand the ultimate in both speed and reliability. SunGard's investments in technology further underscore our commitment to deliveo delivering real benefits that help improve our customers' businesses."
