The Western Union Company (NYSE:WU), a leader in global payments, and InComm, the industry leading marketer, distributor and technology innovator of stored-value gift and prepaid cards, announced today that they have entered into an agreement to offer Western Union General Purpose Reloadable prepaid cards (GPR). The Western Union® MoneyWise™ Prepaid Card will first be offered in the U.S. through InComm retail locations.
The InComm agreement builds upon Western Union's global prepaid go-to-market strategy. The Western Union MoneyWise Prepaid Card complements the Western Union GoCashSM service, an in-lane money-transfer service offered through InComm retail locations in the U.S. since December 2009.
"As prepaid products continue to gain momentum with consumers, particularly in today's economy, Western Union sees its suite of prepaid card services as an opportunity to continue strengthening both its relationship and value proposition with consumers seeking convenient prepaid services, and mass market retailers preferring to efficiently manage prepaid services at the check-out counter," said Stewart A. Stockdale, President, The Americas and EVP, Global Cards & Global Key Accounts, Western Union.
"We look forward to continue working with InComm to offer our prepaid cards to consumers through InComm retail locations."
InComm partners with more than 150,000 retail locations. Through its relationship with InComm, Western Union will now offer the MoneyWise Prepaid card to consumers through grocery and convenience stores, pharmacies, and mass merchandiser locations.
Brooks Smith, InComm CEO and President, added, "Innovation, dedication and commitment to our merchant and product partners are cornerstones of our business. The Western Union MoneyWise Prepaid Card brings strategic value to our portfolio of prepaid financial services products, backed with a leading global brand recognized by consumers."
The Western Union MoneyWise Prepaid Card was awarded three 2011 PayBefore Awards in the following categories, among other winners: Best General Purpose Reloadable Program: In-Person Sales Channel Category; Best Prepaid Program Media Advertising Category; and Online Gift and Greeting Card -- Best Gift Card Program Category. In 2010 PayBefore also named the Western Union MoneyWise prepaid card "Outstanding New Entrant" in the Best General Purpose Reloadable Card Program category.
