UK insurance group invites public to tweet their life story in 140 characters or less

Could you sum up your life in just 140 characters? That's the challenge being thrown down by local insurer Ecclesiastical as part of its national competition to find an individual whose life story is worthy of being turned into a book.

Tweet of My Life is a competition aimed at users of the online social networking tool Twitter. We want Twitter users to sum up their life in a single tweet of 140 characters, including the hashtag #tweetofmylife. Winning entries will be displayed on Ecclesiastical Insurance's website and announced on @thetalkingpoint Twitter page.

Tweet of My Life is part of Ecclesiastical's Book of My Life competition, launched in March. Ecclesiastical is a major insurer of churches and heritage buildings in the UK and wanted to do something that would help preserve living heritage. Book of My Life was devised and launched by the Gloucester-based company last month as an attempt to find life stories of real merit that would not normally be the subject of a biography and preserve them for future generations.

Clare Pardy, fine art and heritage underwriter for Ecclesiastical and chair of the judging panel said: "Tweet of My Life may be the ultimate test of Twitter's micro-blogging potential. Brevity is an art and we're pushing that to the limit by asking Twitter users to create a tweet condensing their whole life into just 140 characters. That's a real challenge and we're hoping to see some very innovative ways of telling their stories."

Anyone wanting to tweet their life story has until 23rd April 2010 to do so.

Anyone wishing to nominate someone they know for the Book of My Life can find details of how to do so by visiting the Ecclesiastical Insurance website at www.ecclesiastical.com/bookofmylife. Entries will close at the end of April and the winner's book will be published in June. Copies of the book will be given free to the winner and their family and friends, with volumes also being donated to local heritage organisations, libraries and museums.

All tweets must contain the tag #tweetofmylife. Follow @thetalkingpoint for the latest entries and to see the winning tweets.
