India's Yes Bank launches Obopay m-payments service

Private sector lender Yes Bank today said that it will soon start another mobile payment solution 'Pay Anyone' in partnership with Obopay, the mobile payment services provider, allowing customers to transfer money to other banks.

"Pay Anyone service, which will be launched during next couple of months, will permit our customers to make payment to account holder of any other bank through their mobile phones.

Moreover, this new service will offer a host of other services such as ticket booking, mobile top up, flower delivery etc," Yes Bank, Country Head (Direct Marketing) Ravishankar told reporters here.

At present, the bank is offers mobile payment solution called 'Person to Person' whereby Yes Bank customers can send money in real time only to those registered with it through Obopay mobile payment solutions.

"We have at least 5,000 customers who are using our mobile payment solution services throughout the country," he said.

Stating that Yes Bank would continue to target mobile banking solutions to provide efficient and quick services to its customers, he said that in India, there are 250 million account holders of banks against 300 million mobile users. "The figure of 300 million users offers us a huge opportunity to capitalize on mobile banking solutions and Pay Anyone is part of our initiative to offer new services to our customers," he said.

The bank, which saw 95 per cent growth in its Profit After Tax in the last quarter, is targeting to increase its branch network strength to 250 by 2010.

"Out of new branches to be opened, we have plans to open 50 per cent new branches in north India as we find good amount of potential in this region," said Yes Bank Retail Head (North) Rajnish Datta.

As per the Reserve Bank, North Indians save 32 per cent of their income against the national average of 26 per cent that throw immense opportunity for us to cash in on this trend through opening more branches here, he said.

Yes Bank has 117 branches across the country, of which 58 per cent are located in the north.
