The global financial firm has has significantly reduced the 20 per cent of unused space at its head office in Canary Wharf with the introduction of the desk and room workspace management system, which allows its employees to hot desk.

In addition, the Condeco-based application provides car parking and visitor management for the bank, as it looks to increase its operational efficiencies.

Andrew Howells, part of Barclay's facilities management arm, explained that the new system had enabled employees to work in "new ways".

He said: "Six months ago we had a static work environment, whereas we now have a more dynamic and flexible work environment to cater for individual staff workspace requirements at any given time."

Last week, the British Chamber of Commerce suggested that businesses in the UK should make better use of the technology available to them.
