For all of 2008, SIX Swiss Exchange, SWX Europe and Scoach Switzerland Ltd. recorded an all-time high in terms of the number of executed transaction: 45,185,748, which represents an increase of 27.9% versus the previous year.
Trading turnover in monetary terms amounted to CHF 1.934 trillion, a 23.5% decline compared to the record high seen in 2007. Compared to the previous year, bond trading increased by 24.3% and in ETFs by an impressive 37.0%.The blue chip SMI index closed out the year at 5,534.5 (-34.77% versus the year-end 2007 reading), the SLI Swiss Leader Index PR at 789.7 (-39.09 %), and the broad-based SPI at 4,567.6 (-34.05%).
