Micro Focus (LSE.MCRO.L), the leading provider of enterprise application management and modernisation solutions, today announces that Volkswagen Financial Services, the largest automobile financial services provider in Europe, is now using Micro Focus Revolve Enterprise Edition.
This will allow Volkswagen Financial Services to implement cost-efficient, strategic maintenance and modernisation solutions for its COBOL-based application infrastructures.
Volkswagen Financial Services offers retail insurance policies to millions of customers across Europe and the Asia Pacific region, all of which run on a comprehensive COBOL application. All technical processes, such as application and contract processing, are executed on 1,600 COBOL and 1,900 assembler programs, all of which require 4,500 daily, individual batch jobs and cover a total of around six million lines of code. Micro Focus Revolve provides complete transparency of the programs, improving application speed and enhancing customer service and business responsiveness. It ensures that all overnight batch transactions are completed before opening for business, eliminating the risk of downtime in working hours and potential loss of revenue.
"Since using Revolve, we have had a comprehensive view of our COBOL application, allowing us to make cost estimates more precisely and also protect ourselves from any unpleasant surprises," explains Marko Genzel from the I-SEQ Technology Team at Volkswagen Financial Services. "In addition, it has been possible to substantially reduce the number of errors brought about by the cross-company effects of code changes resulting from the increased transparency."
As a result of the range of functions offered by Micro Focus Revolve, the IT department is able to adapt to the constant changes and extensions made at Volkswagen Financial Services (new products, customers etc.), without risk and in a cost-effective manner. Micro Focus Revolve also automates all processes, removing the possibility of human error from manual methods and, as it shows the structures of the application in a clear, visual display, there is only a minimal need for training for new or external developers.
"We are delighted to be helping Volkswagen Financial Services increase its efficiency and productivity by breathing new life into its modernisation strategy", said Stuart McGill, Chief Technology Officer, Micro Focus. "In times of economic uncertainty, organisations need to ensure they are extracting the maximum value from their core systems. The visibility brought by Micro Focus Revolve will ensure that Volkswagen Financial Services is not only maintaining its high level of customer service, but also equipping itself with the information to make strategic decisions, based on the performance of its IT."
