Unisys, the worldwide technology services and solutions company, has installed its powerful market leading ClearPath Libra Model 400 mainframe-class enterprise server at the Principality Building Society in Wales. The server will run at the Society's new data centre in Cardiff, helping to support both the head office and the transaction requirements of all 50 society branches.

The upgrade to the ClearPath Libra Model 400 is part of ongoing investments in IT systems at Principality. The server is integrated with the existing Unisys Mortgage and Savings System (CARES), bringing greater performance capabilities to the Society's back office. In particular, the new system will give Principality improved network response times with state-of-the art Intel processor technology and greater capacity.

In combination with the building society's other technologies, the new ClearPath Libra server also provides Principality with excellent business continuity, as well as improved, flexible storage and pricing benefits. Unisys and Principality have signed a 5 year deal for ClearPath Libra that will see Unisys responsible for the maintenance and ongoing support for the systems.

John Williams, director of IT at Principality Building Society commented, "This addition of the Unisys ClearPath Libra Model 400 server helps to improve customer service as we continue to expand our lead in financial services across Wales. We now run the majority of our back office IT across a Unisys platform, with £5bn of assets reliant on Unisys technology. By investing in the ClearPath Libra server we are equipping ourselves with up to date technology that will bring us operational benefits both now and in the future."

"There has never been a more crucial need in the financial services market for optimal IT support," added John Bryant, financial services marketing director, Unisys. "New regulations and requirements of best practices, combined with strong competition, mean that banks and building societies are more reliant than ever on their IT. This deal with Principality will help the building society maintain market position and flexibility for the future in ensuring it can react quickly and effectively to changes in market requirements.
