Tibco Software (NASDAQ: TIBX) today announced the general availability of Tibco Rendezvous 8.0, the latest release of its leading low latency messaging software.

The latest version of TIBCO Rendezvous provides even lower and more predictable microsecond latency, improves manageability, and delivers the reliability to address IT challenges and aid business responsiveness to threats and opportunities relevant to the financial services and other real-time data-driven industries.

For example, in the capital markets sector, as the volume of data and adoption of algorithmic trading grows, financial institutions are constantly looking for ways to support increasing message volumes and reduce the time, or latency, between when an event such as a stock price change occurs and its actual response. Reducing latency for these companies can result in significantly higher profits and in some cases millions of dollars.

"At Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking, we pride ourselves on bringing value to our clients through our expertise, tradition for innovation and most importantly our trusted products and services," said Michel Renouvin, Head of Middleware within the IT department of Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking. "We require software technology that will help reinforce our fundamental tenets and maintain our industry leadership. TIBCO Rendezvous has delivered on all accounts by assuring microsecond latency performance, reliability and manageability."

TIBCO Rendezvous 8.0 has been optimized to deliver even lower microsecond latency. With this latest release, the new TIBCO Rendezvous Server In-Process Module Add-on embeds daemon functionality directly into applications for additional microsecond savings.

Additional TIBCO Rendezvous 8.0 release highlights include:
  • up to a 75 percent reduction in standard deviation from end-to-end message latency;
  • a lower cost of administration through self-managing protocols and centralized management that enables intelligent network utilization such as subject-based multicast mapping and service port mapping;
  • greater reliability for the most demanding apapplications in 24x7 environments including end-to-end protection from transmission failures; and
  • increased throughput, with additional support for more InfiniBand and 10 Gigabit Ethernet vendors.

TIBCO has worked extensively with its business partners to ensure ultra-low latency messaging software and network infrastructure technology, such as InfiniBand and 10 gigabit Ethernet, work together as a seamless, high-performance integrated backbone. "TIBCO and Cisco recently tested Cisco's new DAL software with TIBCO Rendezvous to help ensure compatibility and benchmark performance of the integrated solution," said Krish Ramakrishnan, vice president and general manager, Server Virtualization Business Unit, Cisco. "Our most recent test results showed the message rate improved over 300 percent, and latency was reduced by up to 70 percent with the TIBCO Rendezvous in-Process Module when hosted across high speed, host optimized InfiniBand interconnect fabrics. We continue to work very closely with TIBCO to lower latency even further for next-generation messaging deployments."

In addition, the optimized configuration of TIBCO Rendezvous 8.0 on Voltaire's Grid Director was tested. Voltaire switches provide 10 or 20 Gigabits/second InfiniBand bandwidth and data acceleration that takes advantage of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology to reduce latency and latency standard deviation while increasing message throughput for automated trading environments.

TIBCO also collaborated with operating system vendors to help reduce overall end-to-end latency, including testing and releasing concurrently with SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 from Novell. "Cutting microseconds out of applications that are already low latency requires vendors to work together, and working with TIBCO Rendezvous is important to our customers," said Moiz Kohari, vice president of engineering for Open Platform Solutions at Novell. "Our continued work to optimize TIBCO Rendezvous with SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time gives our joint customers an out-of-the-box, low-latency solution with the support they need to deliver the next generation of ultra-low latency market data and transactional systems."

"With more than 2,000 customers worldwide, including seven of the top ten financial services firms, two of the top five most visited Web sites, and leaders in almost every industry world-wide, TIBCO Rendezvous is one of the most widely adopted and most widely proven mission-critical low latency messaging software solutions on the market today," said Jeff Kristick, vice president, Product Marketing, TIBCO. "This release further extends our leadership by reducing latency and improving reliability and manageability, making our customers even more real-time than ever before."
