Forty-seven new Diebold Opteva(R) ATMs will be deployed throughout Heritage's network of branches and mini branches, bringing the total number of devices in the Heritage ATM network to 82. Ten of these units will be installed in new sites, making member access to Heritage services even more convenient.

John Minz, chief executive office of Heritage, said orders for the new machines were placed with global self-service solutions provider Diebold, and deployment would be staggered throughout 2005.

The advanced Opteva terminals are being deployed with digital surveillance cameras, alarms, consumer awareness mirrors and many exclusive security enhancements designed to deter such criminal activity as card-skimming, in which personal information is duplicated from transaction cards.

"The Opteva family of self-service terminals features the latest in Triple DES Personal Identification Number (PIN) encryption technology and security, which provides essential protection to personal banking information at the PIN pad," said Minz. "Heritage Building Society is proud to take advantage of the latest design developments offered by Diebold's Opteva platform, and we are keen to include these exclusive enhancements in our product offerings and provide enhanced ATM service to our members.

According to Reg Bohler, managing director of Diebold Australia and New Zealand, Heritage is the first building society in Australia to combine the new generation Opteva family with a sophisticated, integrated digital surveillance system.

"Diebold is proud to continue its strong partnership with Heritage Building Society," said Bohler. "And we are delighted by this opportunity to deliver enhanced security, functionality and ease of use for the many members Heritage serves."

Ten of the new machines will be installed in new Heritage outlets, including branches and mini branches as outlined in the Society's new growth action plan that provides for 11 new branches (six this year), additional community branches and new mini branches throughout southern Queensland.
