IdenTrust authentication tools get ECA certification

IdenTrust today announced that it has received U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) certification for its online identity authentication solutions under the External Certification Authority (ECA) program.

IdenTrust provides a complete hardware and software ECA certificate service to streamline and strengthen identity authentication for DoD industry partners and other organizations.

To enhance trusted communications, the DoD requires that its contactors use DoD-approved identity authentication solutions during electronic data communications with the DoD. The ECA program enables DoD-approved external certificate authorities to issue digital certificates to industry partners and other authorized external organizations. IdenTrust is one of only three vendors that the DoD has certified to issue ECA certificates to government contractors.

Complete ECA Certificate Service

IdenTrust offers a unique turnkey certificate service because it supports two types of ECA certificates: software-based s-Certificates and hardware-based t-Certificates. Both certificate types include identity authentication, digital signing, encryption โ€” and comply with ECA certificate policies. These certificates are also citizen attribute "ready" (a new DoD requirement effective July 1, 2007). IdenTrust has also developed partnerships with key hardware token vendors to provide customers with added flexibility for their credentialing solutions.

In addition to providing the industry's most comprehensive set of hardware and software offerings, IdenTrust is the only company to provide vetting locations โ€” eight nationally โ€” to support federal identity authentication requirements. It also offers flexible registration to fit the needs of small or large subscribing organizations, including online registration for individuals and bulk load registration for groups.

DoD certification of IdenTrust's trusted identity solutions for the ECA program builds on the company's extensive experience in providing digital certificates to the U.S. government. IdenTrust supports the U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) Access Certificates for Electronic Services (ACES) program, which provides digital certificates and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) services to enable electronic government applications that require logical access control, digital signature and/or electronic authentication. IdenTrust currently provides more than 70 percent of the ACES program's digital certificates.

"We look forward to beginning a new level of support for trusted communications between the Department of Defense and its diverse partners," said Andrea Klein, Chief Marketing Officer for IdenTrust, Inc. "IdenTrust combines proven experience providing authentication services to the U.S. government and financial institutions around the globe. Supporting the needs of both of these markets enhances our understanding of requirements and enables us to provide more flexibility in our solutions for safeguarding identities."
