NextiraOne has upgraded CGD's network infrastructure at its Portuguese headquarters in Lisbon and two other corporate offices in Lisbon and Porto (Av. 5 de Outubro, Av. dos Aliados), making available a future proof, resilient and secure environment, based on IP technology.

NextiraOne's solution is based on a high availability gigabit Ethernet network, and is the answer to increasing demands on bandwidth and traffic prioritisation, from different business applications such as CRM, Intranet, e-learning, alarms, videos and bespoke banking applications.

In the Lisbon headquarters, NextiraOne deployed four Alcatel OmniSwitch 8800 in redundant configurations for the core network, with access and server farm aggregation throughout the other offices managed by eight Alcatel OmniSwitch 7800/7700.

Information sharing between the different buildings in the backbone network is managed over broadband connections using a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) with available bandwidth up to 1 Gbps, featuring high availability and guaranteed quality of service (QoS).

"We have a long lasting relationship with NextiraOne, which has been helping us to improve our communications infrastructure, allowing us to reduce costs and facilitate interactions with our customers. Clearly, NextiraOne has the credibility, expertise, and ability to deliver according to our expectations and business evolution," said Fernando Nascimento, IT communications manager, CGD.

"CGD is one of our largest customers, not just in Portugal but acrossEurope. The scale, scope and complexity of this project made it a big challenge for NextiraOne, but one we have successfully delivered on. We proved our technical skills in designing and implementing a state-of-the-art network capable of delivering highly sensitive traffic, prioritised according to business rules," said Pedro Morão, marketing and engineering manager, NextiraOne Portugal.

Caixa Geral de Depositos consists of a group of operating companies dedicated to different business areas. It has banking and insurance activities spread over 1500 locations across five continents.
