Swift passes 10 million message milestone
SWIFT announced today that on 30 June it passed the 10 million message mark. 10,139,170 messages were sent on the new peak day, surpassing the last peak day of 9,925,862 messages on 30 April 2004. The payments market made the most significant contribution to the record traffic.

"This reflects end-of-quarter activities by financial institutions as well as the increased use of SWIFT. We also think it is a significant indicator of a strengthening global economy," said André Boico, Director, Pricing, Information Services and Analysis, SWIFT.
Messages sent via SWIFT per day have tripled in volume over the past seven years, up from three million in 1996 to an average of over nine million messages per day in 2003 and continuing this year.
