Once implemented, the Tibco platform will provide a real-time view of business events, enabling Skandia to decrease time-to-market for new services, streamline the administration of its distribution chain and ultimately improve customer service levels.

Tibco Software was chosen following a thorough and detailed evaluation of the solutions available on the market. Central to Tibco being chosen was the proposed implementation plan and the formation of a Tibco Competence Centre (TCC) at Skandia. The TCC will be staffed jointly by Skandia personnel and Tibco Professional Services Group (PSG) resources.

Tim Mann, CIO, Skandia, commented: "The TCC component was a crucial part of our vendor selection. Other vendors were prepared to offer their software free of charge, but relied heavily on their delivery resources to build a working solution. We decided that Tibco's software was the most suitable for us to use as part of our programme of developing and streamlining our award-winning customer services."

Skandia will use the Tibco software to transform its application architecture with the aim of achieving faster time to market for new products.

"Skandia is one of the fastest growing life companies in the UK and we have ambitious plans to increase this growth over the coming years," says Tim Mann. "Using sophisticated software solutions such as those offered by Tibco will enable us to connect our various services together in a cohesive way."

Murat Sonmez, executive vice president, Strategic Markets, Tibco, commented: "The design and functionality of our software will provide Skandia UK management and their financial adviser customers with a real-time view of the business and client portfolios, helping them make strategic business decisions to enable them to achieve their business goals."
