The internationally renowned smart card manufacturer Sagem Orga has agreed to partner with the German IT-Security vendor Kobil Systems. At this year's CARTES, which will take place in Paris from November 7 - 9, Sagem Orga and Kobil will present the future of banking and mobility: Secure online banking with mIDentity Mobile Banking.
This packaged solution expands the existing highly secure EMV card range of Sagem Orga by adding a mobile online banking solution. It gives banking customers the highest level of security against phishing attacks and identity fraud while conducting online banking transactions. The outstanding feature of this solution is its high level of convenience and mobility - customers can access their account anywhere, anytime.
With the introduction of EMV cards, fraud in card payment and cash withdrawals at POS and ATM has dropped significantly. In online banking, however, things are quite different. Fraud in the form of phishing and identity theft has increased to dramatic levels and is a new security issue for retail banks. The new solution by Sagem Orga and Kobil combines EMV chip security with online banking while providing outstanding plug-and-play flexibility.
The great benefit of the convenience and mobility of this solution lies in the fact that customers do not need to install any software or hardware drivers on their PC or laptop; they just connect the plug-and-play solution to start the online banking session. Once online, the session is secured via EMV chip technology with applications and webpages securely residing in the flash memory of the mobile solution. The access to the online banking account is secured via two-factor authentication.
The joint mIDentity Mobile Banking solution of Sagem Orga and Kobil combines the benefits of a web-based solution (available from any Internet PC) with EMV smart card security. "Security and comfort are the critical factors for successful mobile online banking.
The cooperation with Kobil produces a convenient and highly secure plug-and-play solution that may well be the future of mobile online banking," notes Silvio Stockmann, Head of Business Unit Banking at Sagem Orga. "Online users of banking services thus receive the highest possible security in online banking via the EMV standard."
Separately, Sagem Orga GmbH, thia the EMV standard."
Separately, Sagem Orga GmbH, the Paderborn-based smart card producer, and Integri, the Belgian-based leading provider of IT solutions for testing and simulating electronic transactions, announce the first integrated solution for EMV CPA.
On the basis of the recently announced Common Payment Application (CPA) developed by EMVco, Sagem Orga - in close cooperation with Integri - provides the first integrated EMV CPA solution. While the smart card application itself is provided by Sagem Orga on the basis of its renowned secure operating system, the dedicated EMV CPA card test suite for verifying the compliance comes from Integri. The SAGEM EMV CPA application successfully passes the test scripts of the Integri EMV CPA Card Test Suite and will be showcased for the first time during the CARTES 2006 event at the Sagem Orga booth.
"Sagem Orga again takes a leading role in developing standardized payment applications which are future-proof," notes Silvio Stockmann, Head of the Business Unit Banking at Sagem Orga. He continued: "We clearly see ourselves as a leader in solutions that follow scalable and common standards such as Common Personalization Specification (CPS) or CPA as we believe it is the best solution for banks".
Jan De Meester, Managing Director, Integri says, "Our solution for EMV CCD L2 has been qualified already by EMVco. The test suite for testing compliance of an EMV CPA application will start the EMVco qualification process by the end of the year. Demonstrating that our EMC CPA Test Suite works in an integrated way with the CPA card application of one of the major players on the market strengthens our conviction that we also offer a quality solution for CPA."
The Common Payment Application (CPA) is a CCD-compliant application specification developed by EMVCo. CPA provides common functionality for the entire payment application. It specifies common data element definitions, card risk management options, common tags, card behaviors, common personalization, etc., that meet the requirements of EMV and CCD. Thus CPA enables a single application implementation to be personalized with the same data elements and tags, including common risk management controls for both Visa- and MasterCard-branded cards.
