Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), the creator and leading advocate of Java technology today announced that for the 8th consecutive year the Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS) has been awarded the SWIFTReady Financial EAI Gold label by SWIFT.

The relationship between SWIFT and Sun Microsystems helps their joint customers to achieve straight-through processing (STP) and lower operating costs when connecting to SWIFT's global financial community.

The 2006 certification underlines that Sun Microsystems is committed to offering true STP based on open industry standards to SWIFT participants, allowing them to seamlessly integrate new SWIFT services with their existing applications and infrastructure. Java CAPS offers a highly flexible and scalable integration solution for financial institutions.

"This certification is part of our investment to support banks in their move towards a resilient platform for faster payments, the Single European Payments Area and Target 2," said Jay Huff, Software Marketing Practice Director, Sun Microsystems. "It allows banks to further leverage their investments in SWIFT, by making it really easy now to participate in new SWIFT solutions and business models."

"SWIFT has enjoyed a long relationship with Sun, through its acquisition of SeeBeyond last August, and we are very encouraged by the continued level of support we have seen this past year," said Eric Meirlaen, Lead Analyst at SWIFT. "In order for our community of financial institutions to make the most of the new solutions we deliver, we rely on our integration partners to provide timely support. Sun has proven to be a partner we can rely on."

To support the new SWIFT InterAct and FileAct services, Sun has developed a new adaptor called the Sun SeeBeyond eWay Adapter for SWIFT Alliance Gateway for Java CAPS which has been tested by SWIFT. In addition, Sun has developed a new SWIFT message monitoring solution. These developments are in addition to the ongoing SWIFT message validation and support activities.
