US-based National City Corporation is to implement Viewpointe's image archiving and retrieval system to electronically store and access cheque images.
Viewpointe says the system, called ImagePlace, will enable National City to prepare for the introduction of the US cheque truncation act, which allows financial institutions to exchange electronic images of cheques for clearing and settlement purposes.
The system will enable the bank to access certain cheque images stored in Viewpointe's national image archive and forward relevent information through existing channels.
Chameli Naraine, senior vice president and director of corporate operations, National City, says: "Access to cheque payment information, through self-service avenues like online banking or through internal applications, will allow us to provide better customer service and improve our back office operations."
