Arizona-based eFunds will now employ a total of 2900 people at its outsourcing services centres in Mumbai, Gurgaon (Delhi) and Chennai.

The vendor manages third party outsourcing contracts for US and UK-based clients, centred around the management of customer accounts - from acquisition through to account maintenance, payments, collection services and customer retention.

Kathleen Flanagan, senior vice president, division executive, outsourcing solutions, eFunds Corporation, says the outsourcing sector is still experiencing tremendous growth: "We are extremely positive about the future of India as a world leader in BPO and eFunds will continue to develop its talent base to provide world class services to its clients."

Research by Australian research and consulting firm callcenters.net suggests that the Indian call centre industry will grow by 68% in the next 12 months to touch 158,000 desks, overtaking Australia to become the largest call centre country in Asia.

Australia currently has 135,000 desks and is expected to increase to only 146,000 desks in the next year.
