MarketWave 2.0, which runs on weComm's Wave platform, provides users with real-time access to financial data such as news, prices and trades, over the Smartphone.

WeComm says the service can be also accessed in variable bandwidth conditions as the application continues to stream data under harsh network environments, down to as low as 2Kbps.

The firm says a number of leading European financial institutions have commenced trials of the technology with a view to deployment for in-house trading and sales staff, as well as external customers.

Robbie Wright, director, mobile devices division, Microsoft, comments: "By offering this platform on the Smartphone, we can make a significant impact on the way finance industry professionals can work by allowing them to view market data and news, as well as make transactions, in a wireless environment."
