Andrew Brown, CTO, global infrastructure services, Merrill Lynch, says instant messaging is becoming a more mainstream business tool.

"IMlogic gives us enhanced capabilities regarding access control, reporting and management," adds Brown.

IMlogic says its scalable system will link to the bank's existing directory systems, data storage and e-mail archiving systems, and supports messaging networks and servers such as AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Instant Messenger, IBM Lotus Sametime, and Microsoft Exchange 2000 Instant Messenger.

The Merrill Lynch contract comes a week after IMlogic publicised a similar deal with Bear Stearns.
