Cedicam selects Cryptomathic for mass market smart card production

Cedicam, the payments division of French bank Credit Agricole, is to implement Cryptomathic's CardInk solution for issuing multi-application smart cards to its more than 10 million cardholder customers.

The Cryptomathic system features a remote and secure key management environment and performs data preparation and cryptographic key generation as part of the personalisation process. The security provided by CardInk has been customised to integrate into the local French banking environment.

Fabrice Piau, Cedicam, says there is an increasing demand for secure card issuing which combines modern credit and debit payment systems with cryptography: "CardInk was chosen for its high level security and provides the scalability that we required to issue smart cards for our large customer base."

"At peak performance we need to produce 10,000 cards per hour," he adds.

CardInk complies with EMV standards and was developed in close co-operation with Europay International.

Martin Eriksen, product marketing manager, Cryptomathic says: "To ease the transition to smart cards we have ensured that CardInk is compatible with all the payment schemes, such as MasterCard and Visa."

The system architecture for the project has been delivered in partnership with Bull System Integration.
