US lending and treasury management firm Automated Financial Systems has hired seasoned banking professional John Reffell to mount a European offensive from new offices in the UK.

Reffell joins as executive director of international operations for AFS in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He brings 27 years of experience from Citicorp, Chase, BoTM and ING Barings where his positions sent him to New York, Hong Kong and London.

With more than 300 active system implementations, AFS offers a single, end-to-end automated loan accounting system capable of processing any type of loan including consumer, small business, commercial or specialised assets. AFS products are multilingual, multicurrency, real-time and include a range of advisory and outsourcing capabilities. The firm currently serves the top 75% of US banks, processing more than $1 trillion in loans on its systems.

The new UK office, located in Cambridge, marks the company's first venture overseas.
