The solution, which integrates Aspace's 4TRESS authentication and authorisation technology with nCipher's nShield hardware security system, allows customers to have just one identification number and password to access their accounts, regardless of the channel used.

Colin Whittle, CEO of Cheshire Building Society, says that providing customers with a single identification number and password was a key requirement when choosing the new system.

Mike Howse, director of strategic sales at nCipher adds: "The challenge is to maintain a consistent and flexible security framework across these multiple channels that can now include the mobile Internet and interactive digital TV."

Aspace says that the problem of having to provide multiple passwords and user IDs to customers typically costs banks over £1 million a year.
