Morgan Stanley launches asset allocation tool

Morgan Stanley has made available a new online asset allocation tool for retail private clients who want to position their portfolios for longer-term growth.

Asset Scan, which is available free to individual investors, creates a real-time picture of how a portfolio is allocated among asset classes, industry sectors, and international markets.

Powered by analytics from Morningstar, the software produces easy-to-read charts and graphs with which Morgan Stanley financial advisors help investors see where they might be over- or under-weighted, and how they can re-allocate assets in line with their appetite for risk.

Introducing the new service, John Schaefer, president of Morgan Stanley individual investor group, comments: "A sound asset allocation strategy is the best way to ensure long-term portfolio growth and protect against market volatility."

Last week, Morgan Stanley held a national 'town hall' meeting for 30,000 of the firm's clients at which chairman and CEO Philip Purcell and market strategists discussed the current outlook for stocks and the importance of having a smart asset allocation strategy.
