The UK bank is creating 1500 positions at the facility over the next four years.

Along with recruiting some experienced developers, the bank says it will also tapp into the local Belfast market to recruit technology graduates or students completing technology-based foundation courses.

The Belfast-based contingent will be expected to work closely with colleagues across the Group on a wide range of e-commerce based projects. The Halifax already has a team of e-commerce experts based in West Yorkshire.

Commenting, David Walkden, general manager Halifax Online, says: "The Halifax Group has greatly expanded its Internet capabilities over the last year and there will be more to come next year."
