Currently, Sears cardholders can use the Sears private label credit card for purchases made in Sears stores and authorised or licensed Sears retail outlets.

Under the new programme, Sears plans to extend the acceptance of its private label card to a targeted group of merchants, including airline, hotel, restaurants, fuel, supermarkets and entertainment companies that do not compete directly with Sears.

Global Payments will act as the Sears payment gateway for processing services offered through acquirers associated with merchants that accept the Sears card.

Paul Garcia, president and CEO of Global Payments, comments: "Sears has the largest retail credit card customer base in the world, and we are convinced that this program will yield numerous benefits for all participants."
