Mercbank is using the BankWorld package to underpin its new MercNet 24x7 Internet-based banking service. The service offers online balance statements, funds transfers, payments, standing orders, credit card requests, loan applications and ordering cheque books and travellers cheques.

BankWorld software has also been used to develop a personal banking service where account holders can conduct business through a dedicated bank manager assigned to their account.

Nihal Jayawardena, managing director of Mercbank, comments: "We've invested substantially in the best emerging technologies to provide a range of services to our customers at various touch-points including branches, ATMs, kiosks and phone. CR2's BankWorld allowed us to elevate this strategy even further by rapidly providing an online banking service."

He adds: "We intend to develop this strategy and incorporate additional channels as and when they are required, using CR2's solutions. We're already planning the next phase of development to include mobile banking."

It is anticipated that future phases will include loan application processing, share dealing, trade finance processing and corporate foreign exchange.
