BBS selects VisiBroker for bank data integration project

Norwegian clearing house Bankenes Betalingssentral (BBS), has used Imprise Borland's VisiBroker to integrate its existing customer information systems, and JBuilder to develop an extranet to its banking partners.

BBS provides clearing services to all banks in Norway. It processes half of all billing transactions in the country and is linked to over fifty thousand shops providing instant payment and cash services. The current system handles up to 2 million transactions per day. BBS' extranet went live in May providing online banking and clearing facilities to 15 local banks, inlcuding the big three, Den norske Bank, Sparebanken Nor and K-Bank.

Francois Hoffman, IT architect at BBS, comments: "We were faced with two problems: we wanted to integrate all of our existing databases, and then share that information with our partners. By using VisiBroker we were able to standardise all our systems on Corba and then link these systems to a secure extranet using JBuilder."

BBS has integrated a number of existing systems on Tandem, Unix and Windows NT platforms, and developed a multi-tier application to rationalise business processes. BBS used Inprise/Borland's JBuilder to create a Web-based application to allow banks to gain rapid, secure access to all bank and customer information held in the BBS databases. As a result of the development, registering of contracts, uploading of legal documents, bill imaging, and transaction checking can now be viewed and processed online.
