Abbey National has purchased Avellino's Discovery tool in a bid to improve the efficiency of data analysis and reporting against its 15 million customer information files.
Avellino Discovery is an automated data analysis tool that monitors trends in the quality of customer information against defined data specifications. The system is programmed to spot negative trends from monthly reports and half-yearly audits, which can then be brought to the attention of management within the bank.
The tool will also enable Abbey National to benchmark its data quality against industry standards.
Caren Black, head of information quality at Abbey National, explains: "Up until now, methods and rules for analysing our data had to be very specific as we needed to know the exact problem we were looking for...Previously it took us over 40 hours to analyse just one field in five million records. With Discovery, we can now achieve more productive results in less than three hours."
She adds: "Avellino Discovery's ease of use, flexibility, drill down function, comparative analytics and comprehensive reporting were all key deciding factors."
