Under the deal, Connex will support the new MutualPlus high-speed connection between Yorkshire and Britannia and the Link central switch, enabling customer transactions to be processed instantly. Project implementation of the system took just five months.

John Hardy, Link chief executive, says: "Link has used Connex for over 18 years to support its ATM network. Therefore it was the natural choice to support the new MutualPlus building society service. The Link system offers seamless integration of additional members to the scheme if prospective mutual participants wish to create similar services for their customers."

MutualPlus was launched in October 2001. Under the scheme, four million members of Yorkshire and Britannia are able to conduct over-the-counter transactions at a combined network of 332 branches throughout the UK.
