Under the agreement, Bowstreet will offer an integrated version of its Web services development and assembly platform, the Business Web Factory, for Sun's iPlanet Application Server by the end of the first quarter of 2002. The Bowstreet solution will also provide integrated support for the iPlanet Portal Server by the end of the first quarter of 2002.

The agreement brings dynamic web services assembly - the ability to assemble and customise the appropriate web services at run-time - to the enterprise, say the companies. It is expected to enable Sun ONE customers to speed time to market and reduce maintenance costs over the lifespan of Web applications.

Daryl Plummer, vice president and research group director, Gartner, Inc., comments: "Because of the central role that application servers play in Web services delivery, it's becoming increasingly evident that the ability to dynamically assemble Web services is a key component for any J2EE application server environment."
