Deutsche Bank is using technology from mobile infrastructure company Extended Systems to provide over 1000 employees each with a personal digital assistant (PDA).
The vendor's XTNDConnect Server software solution synchronises data such as emails, calendars, addresses and tasks between the Lotus Notes Groupware of Deutsche Bank and PDAs.
Ralph Peters, Deutsche Bank project manager, says: "Because we can now support PDAs from all operating systems we expect even more staff to take advantage in the near future."
Security is provided by the 128bit encryption of the synchronisation software. In addition, authentication based on internal groupware user lists restricts access only to a selection of approved names.
The majority of the devices are based on the Palm operating system, but Windows CE and Psion EPOC32 are also supported by the system.
