Ohio-based Diebold is showcasing a new automated teller machine with digital image cheque capability at BAI's Retail Delivery Conference taking place in California this week.
The machine will allow consumers to view or print the digital image of a processed cheque at an ATM machine. Added features such as the ability to order new cheques, verifying the amount of a certain cheque and verifying whether a cheque has cleared are also in the pipeline.
David Bucci, senior vice president, customer solutions at Diebold, says: "Cheque image retrieval at the ATM reduces branch and call centre operating costs by moving these routine transactions to a lower-cost, self-service delivery channel."
Cheque image retrieval can take up to five or more business days to complete with the microfilm archiving systems currently in use, says Diebold.
