With the arrival of TV banking, the Woolwich claims to be the only UK bank to deliver fully transactional services to its customers via all channels - branches, Internet, ATMs, 24-hour telephone banking, WAP mobile phone and interactive digital TV.

Available as part of its integrated Open Plan service, potential customers are being invited to try before they buy via remote control over the Open TV banking menu.

Existing customers with access to Sky Digital will be able to use the remote to view account balances and perform a range of banking functions, including bill payment and funds transfer.

Open Plan is a multi-channel banking concept which automatically sweeps money between customer current accounts, savings and loans so as to earn maximum interest and minimise charges.

Lynne Peacock, Woolwich group operations director, says more than 325,000 customers are already using Open Plan. "The extension of Open Plan onto interactive digital TV adds a new dimension to the service, giving additional access to those millions without a PC or for customers who want to bank from the comfort of their sofa," she says. "This is not about clever technoloy, but the delivery of convenience and choice to the consumer."
