Hutchison Telecom plans mobile stock trading

Hong Kong-based mobile carrier Hutchison Telecommunications has contracted with SmartServ Online for its financial market and short messaging services.

Under the agreement, SmartServ Online will provide its SmartServQ wireless SMS (short messaging service), and a customised PDA-enabled version of its MobileMarkets applications to the Hutchison Telecom mobile subscribers.

Scheduled to roll out before year's end, SmartServQ will grant subscribers access to real-time financial market quotes, indices and alerts from North American (New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, Nasdaq), and European (London Stock Exchange) financial markets using their mobile phones.

The MobileMarkets application, slated for roll out quarter one, 2002, will enable users to trade marketable securities and access real-time quotes, news, alerts, watch lists, currency tables and many international market indices in addition to those from Hong Kong Stock Exchange, via their PDAs.

The deal marks the first Asian implementation of MobileMarkets for SmartServ Online.
