Deutsche Bank to launch 'Motion Code' card in Spain

Deutsche Bank in Spain is to issue a credit card with a dynamic CVC code that changes every four hours, in a bid to create a safer shopping experience for online purchases.

The German bank has teamed up with Mastercard and Idemia to launch the 'Motion Code' card under the brand name Tarjeta Calma.

Idemia's Motion Code technology consists of a dynamic cryptogram changing randomly to provide better security for online payment by preventing data theft and cloning.

"The Deutsche Bank Mastercard Tarjeta Calma will go beyond usual payment card benefits and offers customers the latest security tech so that they can buy online in an environment where online shopping is ever growing," says Luis Miegimolle, Deutsche Bank Card Manager. "We are thrilled to pioneer this technology in Spain and introduce this new product backed by Mastercard and Idemia."

Other European banks to have tried out dynamic CVC technology include SocGen, BNP Paribas, and BPCE.

I get the principle, but how this will work? How will the customer get the CSC code to enter on-line, via text?

I support the first question - can you clarify how does this work? Is it the CVC code inside the mobile app?

If yes, is it changing every 4 hours?

I dont see any pros in comparison with the virtual one--time card details, which may be generated every time the client requires. Nowadays you have the service like this (one-time card details generated for e-commerce payment - the action is initiated by the client in the app).

In the proposed technology, the CVC code instead of being a static print on the back will now be on a mini display which will refresh a new 3 digit CVC every 4 hours.

My current solution to mitigate this problem has been to memorize the 3 digit CVC and scrape it from the card.

And this mini display will be a part of the card?

Yep, the mini display will be a part of the card.
