Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) has purchased 110 advanced-feature automated teller machines (ATMs) from Diebold. The machines will be installed in the Sichuan and Guangxi province, which has a population of almost 90 million and 20 million people respectively.
"ATM providers have targeted this area as an important market," says James Chen, Diebold vice president and managing director, Asia-Pacific. "The region referred to as the China-west region accounts for two-thirds of the nation's territories, encompassing the cities of Nanning and Chengdu. The Chinese government has just announced an ambitious initiative to accelerate the development of this region."
The Diebold machines ordered by the state-owned bank incorporate thermal printers and cassettes capable of dispensing currency as well as items of value such as coupons, tickets and pre-paid phone vouchers.
