The Co-op will be placing stickers that carry the bank’s logo and words 'Top Banana' on bananas at stores across Britain from early September.

Smile is the standalone Internet bank launched by the Co-operative Bank, a sister company to the UK retailer.

Bob Head, chief executive of smile, says: "Britons eat more than five billion bananas each year and they're such a smiley fruit that we thought it was the perfect way to advertise our message."
