BBVA Compass is hoping to win over younger customers with the launch of a basketball-themed mobile gaming app.
The official bank of the NBA teamed up with tech startup Platypi on BBVA Hoops, a free Android and iOS game that requires players to swipe the screen to shoot a basketball, sinking as many shots as possible in 30 seconds. At the end of the game, users are encouraged to post their high scores to Facebook and Twitter.
Rich Trent, digital segment manager, BBVA Compass, says: "The work we did with Platypi on this app should help us increase our exposure across social media networks, potentially allowing us to develop new client relationships. It's exactly the kind of work we need to be doing as we transform into a bank that thinks digital first."
Patypi is one of several startups housed in a new cross industry development centre inside BBVA Compass's Birmingham's Innovation Depot in Birmingham, Alabama. The centre is the latest attempt to push a digital agenda at the bank by working with tech firms.
